How to Get Around DFW Airport

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is one of the largest airports in the United States. It's size makes it very difficult for first-time passengers to find their way around. To make your trip smooth and easier, the steps below will help you to find you way around DFW airport.

Departing from DFW Airport

Visit the Transportation Security Administration's website (see Resources) for a list of items you can and can't bring in your carry-on baggage. Follow these guidelines accurately to make the passage through security check points quick and easy.

Check and re-check your flight itinerary. The airport recommends that you arrive at least two hours before your scheduled flight. If it is your first time to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, consider arriving even earlier than that so you won't miss your flight if you get lost.

Park, if you're driving your own car to the airport, in one of the various airport parking lots, and take one of the provided shuttles to the terminal. The options are valet parking, terminal parking, express parking and remote parking. Keep in mind that, the further you park from the terminal, the cheaper the cost.

Review online maps of the DFW airport terminals (see Resources). Note the location of the airline ticket counter and flight terminal for your departing flight.

Head to the terminal indicated on your itinerary, which is terminal A, B, C, D or E. Arrive at the airline ticket counter with your baggage, identification and itinerary ready. The location of all the ticket counters is near the upper level entrance of the appropriate terminal.

Pass through a security check-point after checking in for your flight. You will find security check-points at various convenient locations throughout the terminal and all of them provide access to the departure gates.

Find the departure gate for your flight by following the maps located through the terminal and the signs. Check your itinerary for your seat number and listen for the flight attendants to call for your rows to board the plane.

Arriving at DFW Airport

Enter the terminal through the arrival gate. Proceed to step two of this section if your trip is over. If you have a connecting flight departing from DFW, travel to the terminal and departure gate indicated on your itinerary and follow steps six and seven above where applicable.

Proceed to the baggage claim indicated by your flight attendants before your departure from the plane. Baggage claims are outside the secured terminal area and your baggage will be in the same terminal as your arriving flight. Wait for and pick up your baggage at the appropriate carousel.

Arrange for someone to pick you up at the upper-level roadway of the terminal you arrive in, or take one of the provided shuttles to the airport where you parked your vehicle.
