How to Stop a Bar Fight

It is never pleasant when a bar fight breaks out near you, especially if your friends or family are involved. However, bar fights can be stopped with relatively little drama or damage. Typically, bar fights are nothing more than intoxicated people overreacting with a punch to an otherwise meaningless situation.

Instructions

    1

Try to calm the situation down before it comes to blows. Usually, bar fights break out after quite a bit of yelling, pushing and shoving. This is the ideal time to stop a bar fight. By simply getting in between the instigators, and attempting to talk to each of them calmly and rationally, you can usually prevent a bigger fight from breaking out.

If punches are thrown, you need to stop the participants and prevent others from joining in the fight. If you are trying to break up a fight, you usually know one of the participants. Tackle the person you know and get him/her away from the scene as soon as possible. Once the main participant is out of the picture, the rest of the fighters tend to stop as well. After all, most of them probably don't know why they are fighting!

    3

When all else fails, call the police or bar security. The threat of getting kicked out of the bar, or worse, arrested, is usually enough to stop a fight.
