How to Prepare Tax Schedule 1040A

Every year every person who receives income in the US must prepare tax schedules for the IRS. In order to use Tax Schedule1040A you must meet certain criteria. In general, you can use Schedule1040A if your total taxable income is less than $50,000 and you do not itemized deductions. Fill out the form by following the steps below.

    Gather all the information you will need to prepare your tax schedule1040A. This would include your W2's, interest income, mortgage expenses and dividends earned.

    Fill out the top of the form with your name, address, filing status and exemptions. Remember to list all your dependents; this will be helpful in reducing the amount of taxes you owe.

    Continue to fill in the form. You will need to refer to the documentation that you have to put in wages, taxable interest, taxable dividends and the other items that are listed on the page if they apply to you. Depending on the amount of interest and dividends you have earned you may need to fill in other tax schedules.

    Calculate your tax. Follow the instructions for line 24 through line 27 to get your taxable income and then calculate the tax.

    Add any payments and credits you have made. This amount will be deducted from the calculated tax and this will be the amount you will get as a refund or the amount you have to pay.

    Sign and date the return. If you are filing a joint return, you both must sign and date it. You have now prepared you tax schedule1040a--put your forms in the envelope and mail it to the IRS.
