How to Visit the Getty Museum

The J. Paul Getty Museum, with locations in Los Angeles and Malibu, California, attracts a wide audience through its exhibitions and programming in the visual arts. Visit the Getty Center in Los Angeles

Drive or take public transportation to the museum. Metro Rapid Line 761 stops at the main gate on Sepulveda Boulevard. There is a parking fee if you drive.

Know that the Getty Center is open from 10a.m.to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday and until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Enjoy the European paintings, drawings, manuscripts, sculpture and decorative arts, and European and American photographs of the Getty Center, as well as the Center's modern architecture and gardens.

Shop at the museum store for award-winning Getty publications, as well as a wide selection of books, DVDs and videos on art and architecture. You can also purchase accessories, cards, posters and prints that reproduce works found in the collection.

Have a meal at one of the museum's cafes or restaurant, or pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at the Getty's picnic area.

Visit the Getty Villa in Malibu

Arrive by car or by Metro Bus 534, which stops at Coastline Drive and Pacific Coast Highway right across from the Getty Villa entrance. There is a small fee for parking.

Request an advance, timed ticket before you arrive. Admission is free. This can be made directly via the Getty website (see Resources below).

Visit the Getty Villa from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. Thursday to Monday.

Appreciate the Roman-inspired architecture and gardens of the Villa. They are an ideal home for the extensive collection of Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiquities found there. The collection includes everything from Gods and Goddesses to Dionysus, the Theater and Stories from the Trojan War.
